EVENT TWO 3×9          03132023

Coming to the scales early was Michael Clevenger and his five-year-old son Tristan who are not new to the area but are new to tournament fishing. New or not, they came in with a couple of fish that were respectable sized chunks. Knowing that their weight would not carry them into the money, they were enjoying the event together as many other youth anglers also take part with their fathers in the Tuesday Night 3×9 Series.

What is so special about this Fishing Team is that they stayed to see the entire event until the scales closed. This suggests something else in its nature. A father and his son and the shining example of sportsmanship. We wished we saw more of this during the Tuesday 3×9 or any other tournament. Over the years, I have come to accept this attitude of not seeing many report to the scales because they knew the weight they had was not worth the walk to the scales and suspect some just preferred not to be present to watch others being rewarded and congratulated.

Sportsmanship is an act of shivery and it is fading in its existence in today’s world. Today, I would like to take this opportunity to recognize it and praise it when it is clear in its glowing view of what is right and to remind us that we can learn something from the acts of others as we pursue our passion of fishing.  Let us all be reminded by the smile on a little boy’s face as he will remember these moments with his father for the rest of his life.
